The Republican Supermajority – Extremism and Neglect By the Numbers

The $6.1 billion in surplus money held by the unaccountable Indiana Republican supermajority has been created by shuffling more and more of their responsibilities onto cash strapped local governments and cash strapped Hoosiers while they brag about low taxes and huge budget surpluses. $6.1 billion is enough to pay $1,000 to every man woman and child in Indiana and it would take more than 100,000 years for most Hoosiers to earn that amount of money. Meanwhile, Indiana has driven teachers out of the profession to the tune of a shortage of 2,500 teachers. The “pro-life” Republican supermajority now has Indiana ranked nearly last in the nation in infant mortality, maternal mortality, life expectancy, and overall health. $6 billion would go a long way toward addressing the many problems we face as a result of the unaccountable supermajority’s neglect and extremism.

What are THEY doing in the midst of these problems and with a huge bankroll in their pockets? Wasting money on a special legislative session where they are arguing with each other about how many weeks (if any at all) they’re going to “graciously” give rape victims to get care before the government mandates them to carry and give birth to their rapist’s baby. And arguing with one another about whether they should “graciously” give taxpayers a couple hundred bucks to help pay for their record high taxes on gas even as gas prices decline. And nominating an extreme Secretary of State candidate that has been fired TWICE for poor performance by past Republican Secretaries of State.

Enough is enough. It’s time to send the supermajority a message and hold them accountable for their neglect and extremism that ultimately leads to far too many Hoosiers unnecessarily dying. Vote for YOUR democracy, YOUR freedom, YOUR future.
