Jane McGinnis – County Assessor
Jane’s family roots in Spencer County run very deep. She recalls from oral family histories that both her paternal family (the Cotton’s) and her maternal family (the Scherer’s) were here by or before the 1930’s. Raised in Grandview with her sister, Carol (Cotton) Lauer, her parents were the late Wade and Shirley Cotton. After graduation from South Spencer High School, Jane attended and received degrees from Indiana University and the University of Louisville.
While employed by the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission in Frankfort as staff for the Joint Committee on Local Government, Jane met and married Lexington native, the late Dick McGinnis. They have a daughter who now resides with her family in Lexington. After her daughter fled the “nest”, Jane moved back to Spencer County in 2004. She resides in Grandview.
Jane began as a Deputy Assessor in January 2007 and served in that capacity until January 2016 when she became the Assessor. She has earned Level I. II, and III Indiana Assessor/Appraiser credentials and has attended many hours of continuing education in order to stay advised of the most current best-practice procedures and changes in the laws pertaining to assessments. Jane wants to continue serving the taxpayers of Spencer County as the Spencer County Assessor.
